Todd Collins - Candidate for PAUSD Board of Trustees
I'm the father of three, a businessperson, and a long-time school volunteer. If elected I will focus on academic achievement and overall well-being for every student. You can rely on me to insist on openness, accountability, fiscal responsibility, and data-driven decision making in everything we do. I will work tirelessly to build on our tradition of excellence for all students.
My family has lived in Palo-Alto since 2004 and our children all attended PAUSD schools, where I have been a PTA officer in our secondary schools. Professionally I have been an entrepreneur, management consultant, and for the last 15 years an investment manager, the last 10 in my own firm. My BA and MBA are from Harvard University.
Excellent schools require strong, data-driven oversight. I am particularly proud that in 2012 I helped save District taxpayers over $800 million by changing how we issue our school bonds. We found experts in our own community, educated the Board, and made changes that benefit every member of the community, especially our kids.
I served six years on the PAUSD Bond Oversight Committee, three years as its chair, helping oversee our $378 million bond building program. Last year I led the elementary strand of the Superintendent's Enrollment Advisory Committee, which discovered that our enrollment has begun to shrink, after 30 years of continuous growth.
This attention to detail, collaborative approach, and constructive problem solving are what I hope to bring to every aspect of our District's work. I will draw on my management expertise and deep experience with PAUSD to work for fiscally responsible decisions that strengthen and protect classroom teaching.
Our schools are among the best in the nation. Most families move to Palo Alto specifically for our schools. Maintaining that high level requires hard work and strong values, including:
- Academic progress and achievement for every student – our kids are individuals, not averages
- Keen attention to mental health and emotional well-being
- Thoughtful, data-driven decision making
- Transparency and trust in all our relationships
- Fiscal responsibility, especially saving classrooms from budget cuts
Together we can make Palo Alto schools even stronger than today. You can learn more at www.toddcollins.org
